I didn't know if a review is in the works, but what are people's thoughts on this record? Pretty interesting departure overall... |

this album is completely void of akerfeldt's death vocals and blast beats. this isn't the opeth i've loved for the past decade. |

100% agree. Honestly it put me to sleep. I hope this departure was just for this album and they go back to what made them great. |

I still haven't gotten around to listening to this. I hear it's like straight up 70s prog which is sick haha. |

On one hand yes it is very 70's prog and kind of awesome. I was one of the people that actually got very excited when Akerfeldt announced the change of style. On the other, however, after listening to it a couple of times I can't help but feel a bit let down by it. It might be a grower but after my first listen I didn't even like it as much as Damnation, which was also incredibly different. |

I think this album is insipid and uninspired. http://www.sonnambulanaut.com/ ^ Blogthing. |

I was actually pretty bored by the end of the album. For the first half of the album, I thought it was a novel, semi-interesting departure for them... but then really struggled to make it through to the end. It's just... really boring. |

Yeah I finally got to listen to this. I liked a lot of moments and other moments were extremely boring and wanky. |
