Would it bother you dating someone with really bad taste in music?
For me it would be a pretty big deal especially if they just weren't interested or at least willing to give it a listen.
One of my friends goes out with a really nice girl who's got just horrible taste. He can't hardly play any of his stuff in the house, which would just drive me crazy. I'm lucky to have met someone with decent taste but they'd never really been exposed to the bands we listen to. Started (years ago) with things like Far, Tool, Sensefield and now her favourites are BTBAM, Dredg and Misery Signals :D Currently listening to: |

it is a huuuuuuuge turn off for a girl to have a bad taste in music. but at the same time i hate girls who are too into music, they are surprisingly high maintenance.

its definately nice if they like the same music, but not a killer.. just time to show them what real music is.

complete turnoff if they have bad taste. i wouldn't mind if a girl had good taste but different styles. its always good to make mixtapes and learn some new music etc. for me a girl has to be into music a little bit.

It was the driving force in the ending of my last relationship.

If she doesn't listen to the same music, fine. If she won't tolerate me listening to the music I want, then that's where it becomes a deal breaker. I would expect this is true for most of us here. We're a bunch of music nuts and anyone who gets between us and our music isn't welcome in our lives.

I have a girlfriend with horrible taste. But she lets me listen to whatever I want in my car and room. She'll take suggestions and listen to anything. Yet she doesn't like anything if she doesn't really like it. Doesn't get dragged in by hype or outside suggestion. So all in all. I'm pretty happy.

Jared hit the nail on the head.
I love sharing music with people and I've never really met anyone that's tried to alter my tastes; it wouldn't work anyways. |

Yeah I've showed my gf a whole bunch of new bands. She turned me onto a couple as well. But, she likes The Shins so sometimes we just can't have everything we want. God awful. This week's top artists on last.fm hootie & the blowfish - 72

I think I'd hate a girlfriend with too similar a taste in music.
I'm with Dante and Jared completely. |

a girlfriend who has no interest in music is a lot worse than a girlfriend who has bad taste in music. I've dated some girls who just don't care for music at all. It's the most frustrating thing in the world.

My girlfriend might not dig everything I listen to but she likes a lot of cool shit. But she doesn't care or say anything if I blast whatever I want in the car. I told her straight up that when I got the new Misery Signals album, that might be all she hears in the car for the next month and...well that's all she heard in the car for the next month and she actually grew to like it.

i think i might have trouble in relationships because i generally make it very clear that i will probably never love the girl as much as i love music.
however, all my exes have failed to have bad taste in music, so that was good. they've all gotten me into something i probably otherwise wouldn't have heard. ok, now i just realized that i have never even asked someone out before i established their music taste. so i guess it DOES ruin things, i just don't let it get to that level. I'm not here to make things better; only to observe and pass judgement. |

My ex loved Nickelback, and I got the last.fm charts as a reminder.
Wonder why we didn't last.... There's this girl... the kind of "it's complicated" relationship, that loves bands like Death Cab or Mogwai, so we get along pretty well with our musical tastes. She doesn't like the fact that I've been listening to Cannibal Corpse lately. |

Maybe you shouldn't make it so clear? I mean, it's fine if that's how it is, everyone's got hobbies, but maybe just don't say that to them? Lying is key. P.S. This is what the alphabet would look like if you removed Q and R. |

Maybe it's because you'd rather fuck the dude from Silver Chair than any other woman... |

My girlfriend has no clue about anything dealing with music. I'll make her a CD every once in awhile of stuff I think she'd like, but that's about it. I think she'd be content with just listening to the radio.

I can't understand people who can listen to the radio so happily. I was working an hour drive from my house, and had to take a company truck so I couldn't hook up my iPod or bring CDs or anything, and I was constantly flipping through the presents that I had set up thinking they would be at least half decent. If it's not a ruddy song, it's a commercial.
I couldn't see it being a deal breaker as long as she didn't complain about my music. P.S. This is what the alphabet would look like if you removed Q and R. |

at that point i'd rather listen to talk radio than half the crap they broadcast. unless you find a great college station, the radio is crap.

Radio is crap. She doesn't care about the music I listen to. I just don't blare heavy stuff when she's around.
