Mine would be - Between the Buried and Me . I saw them on someone's top ten list and now I'm obsessed.

Oh countless bands over the years I'm sure. The most recent one I can remember is This is a Standoff. Underminded for sure too. I never would've known about them if it wasn't for Aaron.

I discovered Clann Zu in decoy's review like five years ago. They quickly became one of my (if not my number one) favorite bands of all time.

And yeah, TDH is a good example too.

The Sound of Animals Fighting, Coma Recovery, and Deer Hunter stand out. Horse the Band might have been from here too.

While we're on the topic, I'd like to know how you guys go about discovering new bands in general.

Lately, the best thing I've found is to just click around Myspace and Last.fm. Artists on Myspace always list their "friend bands" in their top friends and a lot of times it's a good way to find some lesser known bands.

On Last.fm, I do the same thing with related artists. The nice thing about Last.fm is you can get an idea of what songs are good because they'll have been listened to more often.

The reason I ask is because I'm going to be working on some new artist discovery features for the relaunch. I'm not so much looking for concrete feature suggestions as I am just trying to get an idea of how you guys discover music so I can make that experience as easy an fun as possible on Decoy.

I found decoy back in 2004. The first thing I noticed was that it had so many great bands, so similar to my taste, and so much more. Kept comming back until I had to sign up because I couldn't see the photo section and, here I am.
Last years sweetest new band recommendations for me were (that i can remember, pretty sure I enjoyed more):
Moving Mountains
This town needs guns
Maps and Atlasses
Vedera (there was an article saying they got signed with virgin i guess)
No not constant

Basically, this is the only way I do listen to new bands

Jared - yeah, I do much like you - I periodically listen to all the bands that requested me and that usually only turns up a band or two with real promise... and then I check out their top friends and so forth.. it's a chain. Also do similar w/ a new band that comes recommended by someone on here when I first check them out and play the "friend" game of checking out their top XX people. I used to go by the new uploads on Oink... ah, those were the days....

Ahh Oink browsing. I used to do a lot of that too. If a band name sounded cool, I'd at least check out their myspace/purevolume page to check em out and if I liked them, I'd grab more.

This site gave me BTBAM, dredg, The Dear Hunter, Life in Your Way, Kaddisfly, and pretty much anything instrumental that I listen to.

These Arms Are Snakes.

I had listened to them a little before joining this site (mostly due to the Botch and Kill Sadie connections), but didn't really get into them until seeing all the praise for Easter on here.

Sans Seraph and The Hush Sound from last year's end of the year lists. Strata, Fair to Midland, and Underminded from reviews (I think).

I usually find a band I like and then check out that band's label website to find artists with a similar sound.

Myspace top friends also works well.

Shit, I even found great bands like Look What I Did and Secret and Whisper from banner ads.

Other than word of mouth, I usually check out Hype Machine. It's a site that compiles all the music posted on any blog in the world. You can search for anything. I have found a lot of cool remixes. They have Top ten lists of the most blogged about artists and the most searched artists (I check this out all the time). They change them up pretty frequently.

Check it out: http://www.hypem.com
