the special election in Massachusetts

seems like all of a sudden the special election for the late Ted Kennedy's senate seat has become the hot topic with the polling to take place this coming Tuesday. A republican win would pick up their 41st vote thus resulting in a filibuster and possibly kill the health reform bill. A democratic win would all but seal it for the health care reform bill to pass. It's been somewhat a shocking revelation that Scott Brown (GOP) is holding a 4% lead right now over Martha Coakley in what has been known as a democratic state. What do you think? Seems like democrats are just as afraid of this bill as everyone else and may be voting republican in hopes of it not passing.. Decoymusic.com (CEO/Founder)

Everyone please just stop talking about the health care bill until you've at least done some semblance of research on it. Too many people are just making shit up or talking out their ass about what it will supposedly do. Until you know what the fuck you're talking about, don't open your mouth. This goes for Democrats and Republicans both. |

fthere's nothing about the health care in this thread. it's about the dems getting their 60th vote or the repubs getting their 41st. as for the health care bill I've done plenty of research on it. im most likely going to be one who will just pay the fine and not have health care if the bill passes, much like a lot of others plan on doing. Coakley had a 15pt lead last week before that last debate. sure MA has had a republican governor in Romney in the past but their house/senate seats are almost always democrats, a republican being elected would be a pretty big change of events but like all polls there's a big margin for error. It's going to be a close one, not sure if I'd want Obama campaigning for me if i was Coakley though. |

Aaron, when you say something like, " Seems like democrats are just as afraid of this bill as everyone else Sorry if this sounds snobbish, but that's how I took your post. I'm done, everyone else can talk about this freely now :-) |

how else can you explain a notorious democrat state suddenly voting for the republican candidate? and how does that mean I know nothing about the bill? going from 15 up to 4 down must mean something. i have yet to find anyone who supports the passing of this bill, so makes sense to me that people may be voting for Brown just because of how important their election is. also i start these discussions based upon surfing the news online and trying to spark discussions. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34876791/ns/politics-more_politics/ is the article. Typically me, I haven't read up on any of this. I just have no desire to read up on politically related news. |

okay maybe they arnt just voting against the health care bill vote, maybe it's more geared towards actually discovering who their candidate is. i'll give ya this one rick, http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,583319,00.html?loomia_ow=t0:s0:a4:g4:r1:c0.000000:b0:z5 Decoymusic.com (CEO/Founder)

Did you just post a motherfucking Glenn Beck clip? I don't think I can even respond... But I will admit the Dem candidate is not that great of a candidate and I can understand people not liking her. However, I mostly took issue with you're thinking that people were voting for the Rep candidate just to stop the health care bill. That was a spurious argument if I'd ever seen one. But seriously, dude, Glenn fucking Beck? |

i didnt even pay attention to who wrote the article but going back to your previous comment about people not voting for her because of the health care bill, every article I've posted talks about that. so how is it far fetched to think these people could vote in their first Republican senator since 1972 because they're afraid of the health care bill? each source ive posted that's what they talk about. so saying I know nothing about the bill has nothing to do with the fact it appears people are afraid of Obamacare. I knew that was going to happen. Now I feel like a piece of shit for being lazy and not finally registering to vote in MA even though I still vote in PA |

im wayyyy late on this, but I have some free time so I was browsing and yeah... but you sir are a cunt. I work for a group that is a part of the DNC and is basically whats left over from the Obama campaign. We deployed staff from all states into Mass. for a GOTV (get out to vote) campaign, and it succcckkked. GOTV is usually pretty successful in any application wether its state or local, but the apathy in Mass was awful. young people didnt want to be bothered, minorities especially didnt want to be bothered. Plus it was fucking snowing. So, thanks for making my job harder dick. but I cant blame you. Nobody gave a shit about Coakley. The election had alot less to do about health care than It did about the candidate. The numbers support that too. Rural turnout also dwarfed urban turnout, and our GOTV efforts werent really focused on the rural areas. Also my group pretty much organizes a volunteer base for Democratic campaigns, and the dickheads who ran the Coakley campaign and the dickheads in charge on my side still had volunteers in Mass calling into Nebraska, Ohio, and Pennsylvania 10 DAYS PRIOR TO ELECTION DAY. Im not quite sure what point im trying to make, im kind of just making excuses. But we lost this because of shitty campaigning, not because of health care. |

also lets not forget that Brown voted for Mass's own version of universal health care. and here are some numbers from a Harvard study, the pdf is in the column. i know im beating a dead horse. |

Ouch dude. At least I still vote. My vote seems to do just as much good for Dems in PA although I still plan on registering in MA this year. But really, I see where you are coming from on all fronts. Coakley was a shitty candidate but better than Scott Brown, MA residents are apathetic, and the weather here sucks. For the record, I often do stop and shoot the shit with the random people who are in the streets of Boston asking me to sign things. I'm usually friendly so I'm not necessarily making your job harder, I'm just not making it any easier. |
