It's people like this that make conservatives and Republicans look like crazy fucking loons. I bet the collective IQ of all the people interviewed in that video doesn't amount to more than 50... if we're generous. |

One of the greatest tragedies in all of this, in my opinion, is the stigmatizing of the "conservative" label; that's it been co-opted and distorted beyond recognition by incompetent radicals. Christianity has suffered the same fate at the hands of fundamentalists, and saying its a damned shame seems a gross understatement... but it's a damned shame. |

Bullshit. The Christian right had a great opporunity to prove they werent the raving lunatics that they are percieved to be. Whats more christian than providing health care for those who cant afford it? Jesus didnt heal the sick for a nominal fee. But not one prominent (white) Christian leader has stood up in support. Instead of this being an issue of morality for the Christian right, its been an issue of race, or socialism, or whatever is the buzz word for the day. Its the hippocracy that non believers or non practicing members of any faith cant stand from you people. The same thing applies for the "conservative" label. If even 50% could have a rational argument about the topics that are currently being addressed then, I think that maybe you wouldnt be stigmatized. I'm an intern for the DNC. I phone bank every night, I canvass all day, I set up events and forums for both sides to come out and share their thoughts. The majority of people I interact with daily are against health care reform, and maybe 1 out of 50 have a valid argument. Birthers, Tea Baggers, Socialism, Nazis, "It says in the Bible...", Death Panels, "Keep the government away from my Medicare", that's what I hear from the poor stigmatized conservative majority. Nothing about Interstate Commerce deregulation, Triggers, Defecit Spending, or anything remotely resembling a valid point. Its not the radicals, its the vast majority, and they are being informed by the conservative/Republican leadership. Thats the damn shame. |

I think what almost every one of you is missing here is that the majority of the country doesn't beleive what you do. 99% of the population is not a hardcore leftist. Most of the country hates that Obama is spending this nation into oblivion. Most of the country is quite satisfied with their healthcare and thinks that spending close to a trillion to ensure that the government is meddling in our lives even further is a terrible idea. So Napalm, care to give us your thoughts on how a communist like Van Jones got into the white house? Either A). the President's people are incompetant and didn't bother to look on YouTube to see he's a wacko, or B). Obama is as radical as you are and the nation is in big trouble. C). All of the above. One more thought. There is a lunatic fringe to the GOP, just like there is in the DEM. The difference is that the lunatic fringe is running the democratic party and the country. Y'know, it pisses me off to no end that people keep criticizing Obama and his spending yet no one remembers how much was spent on the motherfucking Iraq war. More was spent on that war (directly and in associated costs) than Obama has spent in his time here. And we got zero returns for that money spent whereas at least with some of Obama's bailout spending the gov't has seen some returns (ie: banks paying back loans, equity in companies, etc.). I'm anti-uber-spending no matter what the case. I hated how much money was spent on the Iraq war (Bush spent worse than most democrats). I hated to see how much money was spent on the bailouts (both by Bush and Obama... people forget the first round of bailouts came from Bush). I am in favor of health care reform, but am not in favor of mindless spending to achieve it. It frustrates me to see that people have such a short memory when it's convenient to forget something that would hurt their arguments or rhetoric... |

You cannot compare war spending to anything else. Did Bush spend waaay too much. Yes. Was he wrong on the stimulus HELL YES. To call Bush a fiscal conservative is like calling Obama a blue dog...laughable. Recommending: Anberlin, Interpol, Chamberlain, House of Heroes |

Wait... why can't you compare war spending to other types of spending? Why is it so special? Last time I checked you pay for war the same way you pay for anything else--with money. |

Van Jones. OK, he was brought in to be the Green Jobs "Czar". He was the most qualified person to fill that position. I personally don't care if he is a communist, he could be a fucking werewolf for all I care. His job is to CREATE JOBS, Ill support anyone who is doing that especially the most qualified person to do that. Also, Bush created a Medicare drug entitlement program that's extremely inefficient, prevents negotiating prices, and will cost $800 billion dollars. It had overwhelming Republican support AND did not do a thing to insure more people. Obama is proposing a bill that will give the 50 million who dont have health insurance an option to buy into a low cost public plan, and its $100 billion more expensive. I'm not going to get into the war because Rick pretty much said what I was going to. As for your statistics. The Hoover Institute study you are referring to where 51.3% said they are satisfied with their health care has two major flaws. 1) The study included people on Medicare/ Medicare which is subsidized by the government and has a higher satisfaction rating than private competition. 2) In the same study a majority of people said health care is way to expensive and something needs to be done about it. If you want to take a more comprehensive and unbiased look at what people actually think about health care in America, I suggest checking out some of the Darthmouth studies on health care. Some will back up what you say, most wont, but it will give you some awesome numbers so you can come back and act like you know what your talking about instead of regurgitating talking points. |
