Zeitgeist - The Movie
For anyone who questions the institutions that are in place in America, take a look at this film.

No prob, I think someone was plugging it around here several months ago. I watched it, and felt it made some interesting, if somewhat unoriginal, unsubstantiated and even occasionally irrelevant points. What I found even more interesting, however, was that someone defaming widespread manipulation through misinformation is so vague in his presentation and citations, instead using hyperbolic rhetoric and a self-assured tone of voice as his primary method of "proving" his points.

I thought the religion part was really interesting. Hopefully this can make some people see religion as a place to get their values from, rather than a factual story.

yeah i posted this a few months ago, i really liked it. i will admit that the 9/11 stuff has no credible evidence to support it. what parts did you feel were disinfo? as for the tinfoil hats comment, if you are naive enough to assume things that you are told by our government or religion are all true, then your living in a dream world. if you have 3 and 1/2 hours to devote to watching a documentary that is loaded with facts and historical records, http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-515319560256183936 is for you. its kinda boring and us basicly the equivalent of watching a text book if you would also like to debate facts and opinions instead of being dismissive and sounding like a grumpy cunt, im all for that. |

I was once at a practice doctoral dissertation defense where the man who was defending his dissertation began to speak about his research into some American government conspiracies. He spoke about the origins of the drug LSD. He mentioned that the laws against use of LSD are incredibly strict. The laws were apparently rooted in Cold War America. Being caught with LSD was essential equal to treason.
America believed that the USSR (Russia) was sending spies over to America that had alternate personalities induced by means of LSD. The American goverment began conducting tests in which psyciatrists would give people large amounts of LSD and through hypnosis, attempt to induce a dissociative identity. Under this new identity, goverment officials hoped that they could send these people over to the USSR to collect information. Once they returned to the USA, the process would be reversed after the information they needed was obtained. As it turns out, these test failed miserably. The tests typically resulted in the individual becoming severe impaired by the LSD. Many of the participants in the tests just disapeared, never to be heard of again. |

Mmm... Hmm... That sounds like a brilliant, foolproof plan. Not buying it.

Is that you, Peter Joseph? I wasn't trying to sound like a "grump cunt" (though nice job making yourself sound exactly like your insult of choice), and I didn't say that the film was disinforming viewers (though I'm pretty sure some of it is incorrect, such as the portion about the supposed illegality of income tax ... and if I remember correctly the filmmaker even admits that viewers shouldn't take his info as the 100% accurate), nor am I naive about the roles of government and religion (which you would know if you paid attention to any of my posts around here); I was simply expressing my opinion that the film's presentation suffers from similar evils to those it attempts to vilify, seeming vague and propagandistic with its use of fear mongering jargon like the ubiquitous "they"s it throws around, and so on. It's clearly touches upon some thought-provoking and powerful topics that are relevant problems in our modern world (though, regardless of what some overzealous bloggers might think, it's clearly not the revolutionary "first time" these issues have been addressed), but does so somewhat haphazardly, seeming to place emphasis on triggering knee-jerk righteous indignation over doing real justice to its more intriguing bits and pieces. This was probably an intentional choice, but it didn't sit well with me. And that might be my inner film critic talking. Damn, I knew if I came in here an argument would start, but I clicked that shit anyway. Oh well. |

I watched this over the summer at work. The religion bit was interesting, but it just couldn't let itself stay credible.

your dumb http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MKULTRA and scott m, yeah dude i knew this was gunna take a turn for the worse when i saw this up there too, my bad for antagonizing. the income tax stuff and its illegal nature is fully explained in that first video i posted, but a summarized and overexaggerated version of it is a documentary here- http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1656880303867390173 . while i do agree with you that alot of this could be viewed as propaganda, there is alot of factual backing to what all these videos are saying (except for the 9/11 stuff). i think that alot of these questions could be answered by the govt if they could just be a little more transparent. for example, one of the big arguments that the 911 people have is that a plane didnt hit the pentagon, and there is apparently mad video cameras that filmed the plane, videos that the govt wont release. well you could shut these people up by just releasing the vids. but they dont, and now people start to question. |

I've heard the LSD story, and just like the movie, I think it has some credible arguments, and like the guy who did it said: for truth is not told, it is realized.
But, to be fair and realistic, we will never know the truth. |

The LSD story reminds me of Jacob's Ladder, one of the better horror movies to hit the screen. Amirite Scott?
