Hailing from Prague, Czech Republic, Apostate tag themselves as metal and Noir, and I can't seem to find a more apt description. On an aesthetic level, Apostate have debuted a consistent monochromatic look across their art, promos and websites. Likewise, their new EP Λ ♦ Λ ♦ Ø is dark and bitter mix of Celeste, Gospel, and Shai Hulud, with an extended cut from black and white movie The Great Dictator juxtaposed against reflective moments of post-rock. Opener "The Road," burns and broods like a the Pax Cecilia track, while "The People" has a misleadingly djenty intro before expanding into a grim brand of hardcore, further built upon in "The Rupture." Closer "The Town" is another instrumental piece that explodes into a final burst of aggression, closing off Λ ♦ Λ ♦ Ø like a cauterization.

"Closing of [the album] like a cauterization." Neat one, Zach.
This is definitely a very good mini-album, but for whatever reason, it hasn't grabbed me as much as I would've expected it to.
