Man, Night Verses were going to be great no matter what. Under their previous moniker Archives, the band had ex-Tides of Man vocalist Tilian Peterson lined up, but he ducked out before their first show. When Archives dropped their instrumentals as an album, a raging collection of mathy, nigh-technical indie rock all sans Peterson's vocals, it was pretty clear this was a talented bunch of musicians. And then they added ex-The Sleeping vocalist Doug Robinson to the mix? Now that's just unfair. Not to mention their debut EP Out of the Sky is freely available.
The band downtuned and refocused, rebranded themselves as Night Verses, and the result is catchy yet visceral post-hardcore, like The Sleeping turned up to eleven mixed with a little A Lot Like Birds. Excellent guitar work coupled with solid drums and an unmatched and authoritative vocal performance by Robinson, plus great production? There's no reason not to listen. Did I mention it was free?

By far and a-fucking-way the best recommendation you've given me, Zach. The only reason I haven't listened to this non-stop is the new Architects.

Also, Tillian Peterson needs to not be a bitch and join a band, fucking seriously. I liked him with Tides of Man, and he'd have done well with this group, I'm sure.

As if Chino could gain anymore weight. That guy goes from kind of chubby to jacked in a matter of two months of touring.

Not enjoying that singing. Great music, good screaming. I would love to hear Tillian's take on this

I never liked the vocals for The Sleeping, but I must admit...this is pretty awesome. It's been awhile since I liked a new band this much, hope they stick around and put out a full length!

The vocals and lyrics are very, uh...2001. The rest is pretty phenomenal. Also, I think Chino loses weight just so he can bust out his shorts and hi-socks.
