How do I get my news posted for the projects I'm working with?

There's two great ways to get your news to our front page. The easiest and fastest option is through our Submit News link on the front page. You can also email news to news@decoymusic.com

How does one go about getting a feature spot or a spot in the Artists You Should Know section?

People always ask us if they can buy feature spots. The answer is simple: no. We feel that in order to make Decoymusic.com a valuable website in this world of webzines we now live in, we only want people to know about music we like. We in no way will ever sell a feature to anyone for money in order to support their band if we dont like them. If we like them then we'll feature them, plain and simple.

Where does all the money go that is sent in for advertising?

All of the money goes back into the site, one way or another. Of course certain staff members have received payments for their time, but everything we make goes into its own bank account setup specifically for Decoymusic.com. Then I am able to pay for new graphics, coding, stickers, flyers, banners, promotions, print ads, and the list goes on and on. Everything we do is to make the site better. People dedicating their time is another way money goes back into the site.. we reward those who love music so much they want to make the site better.

I am interested in joining your team, how do I do so?

If you want to join then you need to email one of our staff. We are almost always looking for new and quality reviewers. We focus much of our attention on reviews and we need intelligent people to write for us. You will get the benefit of reviewing for a respected website and the actual CD's you are reviewing will be mailed to you, and if you stick around enough and help out in other areas of the site you may make a little extra dough for your pockets. Only the dedicated need apply; if you work most the time it may not be the best thing for you. We generally expect our reviewers to complete 2-3 reviews per week on average. If you can not handle this kind of commmitment, please do not inquire.

The pricing of banner ads is just too expensive, I am a small label, can we work something out?

Of course, we offer many different kinds of ad sizes and spots all which feature premium placement and exposure. No matter what size banner you purchase it will be seen. With that said we love helping out smaller labels who are trying to get out there, we are avid supporters of independent music and helping out the little people. Unfortunately we only have so many spots available to maximize the number of impressions our advertisers receive. Please book in advance to ensure you get your banner up at the ideal time for your promotion.

Your reviewers suck, their facts are fiction, and their reviews are worthless pieces of crap!

Glad you feel that way, instead of complaining through an email, join the forums.. Post your complains about each review, rate the review yourself and speak out about things. Interaction is an amazing tool and I'm sure you may not be the only one who has a problem with the reviews. Speak up, dont be an anonymous kid without any solid insight into your bickering. Register, post a message, and backup your stance.

You steal news from theprp.com and other websites, what gives?

Granted everyone will always claim each others news is stolen from each other but in the land of the internet and press releases and such everyone often times gets the SAME news. Believe it or not people want to promote their items to the most places possible. We try to post it first but that doesnt always happen. We will however find good news on other websites we frequent and let you know about it as well.. we try to label SOURCE but in reality news is free and so is information, if people/sites care that much about stealing news then thats pathetic.

Whats the deal with the review rating system here at Decoy?

We originally started this zine back in 1998 we used a scale of out of 10, but later found it to be quite silly because nothing was ever going to get below say a 5, the scale was too wide. So about 2-3 years ago we went with the 1-5 rating scale with 5 being the best. This has led to people interpreting the scale however they wish with .4's and .7's and this and that. We would like the system to be more cut and dry with only .5's so hopefully we can get on target with that now.

I work for a band and want to send you an album for review, how do I do so?

You can feel free to send it our way, but this in no way guarentees that it is going to be reviewed. We have a lot on our plates all the time, most of us can barely keep up with the speed behind which albums are released so we can not get to them all. With that said most all of them are listened to and if we do find something we enjoy we have no problem promoting it or telling some friends in high places whom we know. Unfortunately we can not return any submissions. Mail all submissions to one of the following:

How long has this site been around, how did it start?

Started this site in 1998 as a high school project of sorts, and a way to get free cds because a lot of music was being bought and a lot of it was absolutely shit. Now its gone far beyond anything I could have imagined then.
