DecoyMusic Band Discoveries: Volume 5

What's up everyone, its myself (Aaron) and my new homie (Dan) back again with five picks each of some of our favorite unknown artists we've found while scouring the internet. Again, these picks are based upon sound, image, pictures, layouts, etc. Basically those are the things that catch our eye and if you have some multi-colored myspace layout we're probably not going to give you a listen. Spend some money, get some real recordings done, and spend a little to make things look nice. With that said, here's some stuff you're bound to love or hate..
-------------------------
1. The Photographic - Louisville, KY (RIYL: This Will Destroy You, Explosions In The Sky, Saxon Shore)

http://www.myspace.com/thephotographic
http://www.purevolume.com/thephotographic
Truely inspiring instrumental music is made by The Photographic. Their first song "Secure" has been featured on the tv show CSI: Miami and the group have received praise in musical publications around the world. These three guys can truely create an epic atmosphere with their music. It's time to discover the next great post-rock band.
-------------------------
2. Senate - Orlando, FL (RIYL: 311, Incubus, Rage Against The Machine)

Senate definately loves 311. These five guys from Orlando, FL create an atmospheric album that best captures the vibe of the afformentioned 311 and Incubus. Rhymes with rock music, groovin choruses and sing-a-longs. You'll listen to this and swear it's 311.. at least Senate manage to keep it interesting even if you're not getting much originality out of it.
-------------------------
3. Embracing Goodbye - Four Oaks, NC (RIYL: Every Time I Die, The Showdown, Clifton)

http://www.myspace.com/embracinggoodbye
http://www.purevolume.com/embracinggoodbye
Those looking for some rockin' new southern rock should look no further than Embracing Goodbye. Brutal breakdowns with riffs that will have you throwing up your horns and headbanging along. The vocals are also on par as to what you would expect and are done quite well mixing between gruff screams and catchy singing.
-------------------------
4. Latin For Truth - Scottsboro, AL (RIYL: Four Year Strong, Set Your Goals, Kid Dynamite, Bigwig)

http://www.myspace.com/latinfortruth
http://www.purevolume.com/latinfortruth
With the recent influx of pop-punk/hardcore bands it's no surprise copy-cat bands have been popping up left and right lately. Latin For Truth isn't creating anything new but they do manage to capture the essence of the bands mentioned in the RIYL by creating catchy music mixed with elements of hardcore and screaming. At least their album titled of "Eleven Eleven" was original. Check them out if looking for something in this genre.
-------------------------
5. Chasing Thrill - Lake Wales, FL (RIYL: A Skylit Drive, Saosin, The Rise Of Science)

http://www.myspace.com/chasingthrill
http://www.purevolume.com/chasing_thrill
This could very well be the next band to make it big nationally. Sonically their sound is almost perfect, crisp atmospheric guitars mixed in with distinct vocals. It might be following in the footsteps of past bands but every so often you come across one that does it better than the others. One listen to Chasing Thrill and you'll be hooked, they have the image and the sound, they are managed by One Moment (Escape The Fate, Hyper Crush, Eyes Set To Kill) so their domination is eminent.

--------------------------
1. Traindead – Phoenix, AZ (RIYL: Failure, Built to Spill, Dinosaur Jr)

http://www.myspace.com/traindead
This Phoenix power trio has released some of the best 90s alternative music to come from the new generation in the form of their debut self titled EP. Their songs sound like the perfect combination of Failure, Built to Spill, and The Jesus & Mary Chain. Catchy, simple vocals, fuzzed out guitars with squealing feedback, and a tight rhythm section keep their music memorable and unpretentious.
-------------------------
2. The Black Box Revelation – Belgium (RIYL: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Stooges, Cage the Elephant)

http://www.myspace.com/theblackboxrevelation
These young Belgians released their debut-album “Set Your Head On Fire”, whose raw, energetic sound is a snarling throwback to the glory days of garage rock. The press unanimously loved the album, and there’s no question as to why that is. On stage The Black Box Revelation is a runaway train, combining the best ingredients of idols like Led Zeppelin, The Datsuns, The Rolling Stones, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Stooges. These guys should be making an impact stateside very soon!
-------------------------
3. Lemonwilde – Los Angeles, CA (RIYL: Muse, Ours, Dredg)

http://www.myspace.com/lemonwilde
Haunting electro-acoustic up-and-comers from LA. Their debut EP “Red Room” can be acquired for free through a bit of a scavenger hunt that helps promote the band. Their music is dark, moody, brooding, and a bit experimental, and seems to get better with repeat listens.
-------------------------
4.Quest For Fire - Toronto, ONT, Canada (RIYL: Black Mountain, Witch, Dead Meadow)

http://www.myspace.com/questforfireband
Upon the inevitable demise of Canada's most beloved garage rock underdogs, The Deadly Snakes (In the Red Records), of which Andrew and Chad were core members, Quest For Fire began to prepare for their great unveiling. They quickly became the city's most sought-after new band. Show offers came flooding in to open for acts such as Black Mountain, Mudhoney, Earthless, Howlin Rain, and Witch. Heavy psychedelic influences mix with classic rock, metal, and stoner rock for a huge sound that comes in long bursts of energy and chaos.
-------------------------
5. Fever Sleeves - San Diego, CA (RIYL: The Dismemberment Plan, Fuzagi, Minus the Bear)

http://www.myspace.com/feversleeves
http://www.purevolume.com/feversleeves
These California boys just self-released their debut album “Soft Pipes Play On,” a gracious indie math rock tour-de-force. Complex and clever, their music twists and charges with a hard hitting urgency. Fever Sleeves can be a bit hard to pin down, but their blend of prog, post-rock, and math rock make for one great sound that fans of all genres will be able to embrace.

California
Lemonwilde is pretty rad, have known about them for a little while now. Senate is horrible.. it's like a half-assed 311 like to the T. Chasing Thrill definitely sound promising, Florida is representin' as far as new bands go as of late. California seems to just be one big pile of suck right now.
