When you think of some of the premier bands from the last two decades, you can’t help but think of the Pacific Northwest. While The Classic Crime claims a musical pedigree harkening back to the legendary Seattle rock acts of the 1990s, the band’s distinct musical signature is certain to leave an indelible mark on the present day rock landscape all their own. Assaulting your psyche with a high intensity, guitar-driven rock-riff sound coupled with arresting melodies and lyrics from Matt MacDonald’s prophetic mind, The Classic Crime’s songs will leave you humming for days on end.
The Classic Crime’s story is straight out of Rock Bands 101. Guitarist Justin Duque met drummer Paul Erickson in High School in Wenatchee, WA. The two zealous boys clicked and the music came naturally. As all newbie bands do, they needed a name and first came upon “Fat Cat Deluxe” while finally settling on “Orizon”. A few variations and additions to the band and they were off and running in their hometown. “Orizon” started to play all over the Washington area and quickly assembled a loyal fan base. It wasn’t until February 2003 that the band parted ways with their original vocalist and came to meet Matt MacDonald from an ad placed in the local newspaper, The Stranger. It was love at first listen and Matt has been with Justin, Paul, Alan and Robbie ever since February, 2003 as The Classic Crime.
Anticipating the upcoming release of their second album, We All Look Elsewhere, The Classic Crime plans to tour for most of 2005. TCC spent two weeks in the studio with producer Casey Bates (Gatsby’s American Dream, This Providence, Daphne Loves Derby) recording their newest and finest set of songs yet. Having received a healthy dose of life on the road last summer, the band is eager to get back on tour. Always a crowd pleaser, The Classic Crime takes pride in performing, and is constantly improving their live show. Not content with just playing a flawless set, TCC’s live show is a visual circus culminating in Matt MacDonald’s must see to believe, crowd-pleasing back flips.
The Classic Crime has graced the stage with such bands as Fishbone, Kings X, Name Taken, The Jet City Fix, Amber Pacific, and The Four Colour Process, along with countless other great northwest bands. The band has drawn crowds upwards of 500 people in the Washington area and their fanbase continues to grow at a frenetic pace.
The Classic Crime plans to tour, work, write, and disseminate the seeds of their musical creation until it all pays off. Nothing in haste, but the future looks bright for the band. Within the next year you could very well hear a TCC song on mainstream radio, television, or movies.
The Classic Crime is filling the void for a generation feeling detached, overlooked and phenomenally misunderstood. Dig deep and find yourself in the lyrics and vibes as the album, We All Look Elsewhere, takes you on a spiritual journey through pain and redemption, leaving the searching soul with hope for something better.
