Bio

The sound of the Autumn project is something of a familiar one, reminiscent of Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Isis and Mogwai but still original, fresh and unadulterated. Dynamics, melody, and emotion are the three most important qualities of an Autumn project performance. Also the use of original film projections, filmed and edited by the project's founder Mike Gustafson, bring the crowd into a deafeningly meditative state.

The Autumn project began as the solo work of Mike Gustafson in 1999. Mike self-released "Dancing in the Shadows" (ZURECORDS), the only Autumn Project record with vocals to date.

In 2001, Mike added long time friend and collaborator Jess Huffman (guitar) and his brother John Huffman (baritone guitar) to complete The Autumn Project's lineup. Two years of writing and experimenting followed, piles of long form droning rock music stacked up and ideas were molded and shaped into something that is accessible but still challenging.

In 2003, The Autumn project self-released Fable (ZUREORDS) with an 8 day summer tour and 1 month fall tour to promote the album.

It was on the last day of their fall 2003 tour, Imagine It Records owner Herb Harden caught The Autumn Project at a show in Omaha, NE. Herb was blown away by thier emotionally epic soundscapes, and a relationship was born.

While the band and label built their relationship, The Autumn Project self-released La Lunda De Negra, beautiful, melodic, crushing, dark and brutal at times. TAP continued playing shows in the midwest area.

On August 16 2005, Imagine It Records re-released Fable with all new artwork and TAP once again hit the road for a west coast tour with friend Tenebre from San Francisco. The response to Fable has been great and was named Underrated Album of 2005 by Unrestrained! Magazine.

TAP recently release their latest album A Burning Light via Deepsend Records.
