There is a fine line between witty and pretentious. It is amazing that Piebald is able to walk that line with what seems like great ease. You can easily see why they have become one of the biggest cult indie bands today. They can immediately switch tones from sarcastic to intelligent to heartfelt. And the thing is, it all works perfectly. This stylistic uniqueness that people have come to know and love mixes so well with their catchy hooks and driven beats. We Are The Only Friends We Have is Piebald's most ambitious record to date. The disc is lush and complex featuring everything from trumpets, keyboards and bongos to a choir of kindergarteners. Front man Travis Shettel: "We have finally created the album we've always wanted to. Every time we go into the studio, we have these huge incredible ideas and they just never pan out due to time constraints within a small studio. This time, with Paul, every idea we had was possible. And the outcome is something we are all very proud of."
