Lightspeed Champion is the product of Devonte Hynes, former member of the well-known punk group Test Icicles. It wouldn't be fair to judge him by his roots, though. With Lightspeed Champion, Hynes has proven himself to be an excellent folk writer. With the help of Mike Mogis' production and multi-instrumental capabilities, Hynes created his debut full-length, Falling Off the Lavender Bridge.
Hynes' project went on to be the opening act for Bright Eyes in the latter half of 2007. Since then, he has been releasing incredible amounts of music for free online, and working on the followup to his acclaimed debut. On February 1, 2010, Lightspeed Champion returned with the album Life is Sweet! Nice to Meet You.
