Bio

There is a new sun rising over the world and work of HE IS LEGEND. “We’ve been the guys that harped on the doom of the situation – musically and lyrically,” says vocalist Schuylar Croom.    The band named their new album IT HATES YOU, in one sense to sum up the vibe of the sounds that they have created over the years, but in another because they are ready to take a new turn in their overall mood.  Croom postulates “Maybe this record is made up of our ultimate answers to all the things that hate you.  We didn’t think about this record as a downer.  Quite the opposite actually…”

What IT HATES YOU is turns out to be an honest, straightforward Rock record that wears its influences on its proverbial sleeve.  Croom, along with bandmates Adam Tanbouz, Steven Bache and Matt Williams, has laid bare an unabashed love for early 90s rock before, but never more so than on this third full length release.

Left to their own devices after their departure from Solid State Records, the band took time and care in writing IT HATES YOU.  “We set out to make a record for ourselves,” explained Croom.  “Nobody was looking over our shoulder so we took our time and stewed on it.  There wasn’t crunch time.”   Tanbouz and Bache worked on the music in the band’s practice space in Wilmington, NC and Croom let the songs speak to him, coming up with lyrics that rounded out the anthems.  “Lyrically, I can’t pinpoint where it all came from.  It is pretty straightforward though - I didn’t go too far out of the way to make it different or strange,” he adds.

In the studio were prior band member and current FILTER guitarist, Mitch Marlow and Al Jacob from Warrior Sound guiding the band in the process.  “It was a good feeling to be able to do this so close to home with good friends,” said Croom.  “It was great to work with Mitch again too.”  Another good friend, Tommy LaCombe of TRAGIC HERO Records was there throughout the process.  “We kind of knew we would be putting out the record with Tommy, but we didn’t want to actually talk about it until the recording was done,” explained Croom.  “We really respect his opinion and are pleased to be working with him.”

“Everyone I Know Has Fangs” was one of the first songs written for the record and is Croom’s favorite track on IT HATES YOU.  He explains “I love the darkness and the tension.  It’s a really fun song to play live.”  Another song that has captured fans’ interest when played live is “Primarily Blues.”  The strains of “Party Time!” are downright infectious  and “Dicephalous” opens the album with a kick.

HE IS LEGEND hasn’t completely given up the darkness, but the band shows a new trajectory with IT HATES YOU – one that will take them straight into the light of notoriety and acclaim!
